In the second part of our "Trip
of a Lifetime" video series, Telegraph Travel's experts discuss the
allure of a trip to Tanzania's Serengeti to witness the Great
Migration.
Each year around 1.5 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebras make a
1,200-mile odyssey across Africa in search of rainfall and grass to
graze on. Beginning in the southern Serengeti in January, they slowly
move north before reaching the northern Serengeti and the Maasai Mara in
July. They then return south towards the end of the year. The journey
involved dramatic river crossings and is fraught with danger - lying in
wait for them are the notorious Grumeti River crocodiles.
As our writer explain, seeing the vast herds on the move is an
unforgettable experience, whether it's from the back of a jeep or from
the lofty vantage point of a hot air balloon. For more tips on tackling the Great Migration, see our comprehensive guide.
